Also called 'Net metering' system. A grid-tied system works hand in hand with the utility company. The system produces energy and it is used by the present loads (home appliances etc.). The surplus energy is sent to the utility company. Latter, when needed, energy is retrieved from the utility company. The energy sent to the utility company is subtracted from the energy used. The difference (positive or negative) is what is owed to the utility company.
